By accessing or using DetectMap, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You must be 18 years of age or older to create an account or use DetectMap — this reflects both our own policy and the age requirements of the third-party AI services we rely on (see Section 8).
You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep it up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at support@detectmap.app if you suspect unauthorized access. One account per person; do not share your account or subscription.
You are solely responsible for complying with all applicable laws when metal detecting, including obtaining landowner permission before detecting, complying with local, national, and EU heritage protection laws, and reporting archaeological finds to the relevant authority within the required timeframe. DetectMap provides informational tools (maps, AI identification, heritage-law guides) to help you do this — these tools are aids, not substitutes for verifying the law yourself. See our Heritage Law guides for country-specific information, provided for general information only.
You may not use DetectMap to: detect on protected, restricted, or archaeologically sensitive sites without authorization; conduct or facilitate unauthorized excavation of archaeological remains; share exact coordinates of protected heritage sites; buy, sell, or trade illegally obtained artifacts, stolen goods, or items whose export/import violates cultural property law; harass, threaten, or impersonate other users; use the service to commit or plan any illegal act; or attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with the service's security or AI safety features. DetectMap does not authorize, encourage, sponsor, or facilitate illegal activity of any kind, and reserves the right to remove content, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate this section without prior notice.
You retain ownership of content you post (finds, journal entries, photos, posts, comments). By posting, you grant DetectMap a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute that content as needed to operate the service (e.g. showing your public finds on your profile). You are solely responsible for your content and confirm you have the right to post it and that it does not violate any law or third party's rights, including intellectual property, privacy, or cultural heritage law. DetectMap does not endorse, verify, or guarantee the accuracy of any user content, including finds, identifications, posts, or comments made by other users. We may — but are not obligated to — screen, remove, or restrict content that we believe violates these Terms.
The Marketplace is a listings board that connects buyers and sellers — DetectMap is not a party to any transaction, does not handle, hold, or process payment for marketplace transactions, does not arrange or guarantee shipping, and does not verify the identity of any user, the condition of any item, or the legal provenance of any item listed. Sellers are solely responsible for the legality of items they list — it is prohibited to list archaeological artifacts of uncertain or undocumented origin, items obtained in violation of heritage law, stolen goods, or items whose sale, export, or import would violate any applicable law. Buyers and sellers are solely responsible for arranging and completing payment and shipping between themselves, and assume all risk in doing so — DetectMap recommends using trackable shipping, verifying an item matches its listing before paying, and preferring local pickup where practical. DetectMap may remove any listing and suspend any account at its discretion, including for suspected illegal items, but has no obligation to mediate disputes between buyers and sellers and is not liable for any loss arising from a marketplace transaction.
DetectMap connects users to share experiences and information. We are a neutral party to interactions between users (community posts, comments, messages, marketplace, follows) and are not responsible for these interactions or any information users share with each other. We do not verify users' identity, qualifications, or trustworthiness. Use common sense and good judgment when dealing with any other user, especially when arranging in-person meetups or marketplace transactions.
DetectMap uses third-party AI technology (currently Google's Gemini API; OpenAI may be used depending on configuration) to power find identification, journal writing, hunt strategy suggestions, and heritage-law context. AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or wrong — including object identification, historical period estimates, and legal-note text. AI output is provided for informational and educational purposes only and is not professional appraisal, legal, or historical advice. You are solely responsible for independently verifying anything an AI feature tells you before relying on it — in particular, before deciding whether a find must be reported to a heritage authority. Photos, notes, and coordinates you submit to an AI feature are processed by our third-party AI provider as described in our Privacy Policy.
DetectMap's map, route-tracking, and location-sharing features involve inherent risks — physical (detecting alone in remote areas, terrain, weather) and privacy-related (location data can reveal patterns about where you are or aren't). You accept all risk associated with using these features and are responsible for using them safely and in accordance with your own judgment and circumstances. To the maximum extent permitted by law, DetectMap is not responsible for injury, loss, or harm arising from your use of location or route-tracking features.
Pro and Elite subscriptions are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Cancel anytime — access continues until the end of your current billing period; no partial refunds for unused time except as required by law. EU consumers may be entitled to a 14-day cooling-off refund on a first subscription purchase under EU consumer law. We may change subscription pricing with reasonable advance notice.
DetectMap and its logo, design, and software are our property or licensed to us, and are protected by copyright and other laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the service except as permitted by law.
DetectMap is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of historical map data, AI analysis results, protected-zone data, or heritage-law information — always verify anything legally or historically significant with official sources before acting on it. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW: DetectMap, its founders, employees, and affiliates are not liable for any illegal act, crime, or violation of law committed by a user of the service, including unauthorized excavation, trespass, illegal artifact trafficking, or fraud in a marketplace transaction — responsibility for a user's own conduct rests solely with that user. DetectMap is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the service, any user content, any AI-generated content, or any interaction with another user, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the service shall not exceed the greater of €50 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. If you live in a jurisdiction that does not allow some or all of these limitations, they apply to you only to the extent permitted by local law.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless DetectMap, its founders, employees, and affiliates from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: your use of the service; content you post; your violation of these Terms or any applicable law; your violation of another person's rights; or any illegal act you commit in connection with the service, including illegal detecting, excavation, or trading of artifacts.
We may suspend or terminate your account, without prior notice, for violation of these Terms, suspected illegal activity, extended inactivity, or at your own request. Upon termination, your right to use the service ends; see our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data (you can also delete your account and data yourself at any time in Settings).
These Terms are governed by Slovenian law. Disputes shall be resolved in Slovenian courts. If you are an EU consumer, nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory consumer-protection rights available to you under the law of your country of residence.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes (e.g. by email or in-app notice). Continued use of DetectMap after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
