DetectMap stands on official, public data. This page says which countries we really cover, from which sources, under which license and how fresh the data actually is. A country counts as supported only once all 6 points below are green — better 1 country covered for real than forty-five on paper.
What »fresh« means here — three separate dates
1. When the source published or changed the data
Official registers are maintained by their operators (a ministry, the surveying authority). That date is in their hands — where the source publishes it, we show it; where it does not, we do not make it up.
2. When DetectMap fetched or verified the data
Layers marked "live" are read straight from the official server on every query — with no intermediate, months-old copy. Our pre-rendered layers are labeled with their origin, and we manually verify each source and its license on the date listed with it.
3. When your device last downloaded the data
Next to zones the app shows "Data updated X hours ago" — that is the time of the LAST download to your device (important for working without signal), not a claim about the freshness of the official register.
Works everywhere
The map and the contours work all over the world. Our analytic layers — terrain, zones, parcels — only where we have really covered a country; each country below says so honestly.
New basic offline packages use the permitted Protomaps regional archive. Permission for automated prefetch of hosted OpenFreeMap tiles is not confirmed; previously saved packages remain usable.
Our rendering from: Selected regional vector extract from the latest supported public Protomaps archive; date and scope are stored with the package. Saved maps do not expire when a newer source appears.

A small user-selected basic-map area is saved with local fonts and icons, rather than an entire country. It does not include satellite imagery, OpenTopoMap contours, LiDAR or protected-area layers. The displayed maximum zoom is the zoom actually saved; the map does not establish land access or detecting rights.
The license does not forbid bulk downloads, but their terms of use allow usage only as long as we do not burden their server with bulk downloads — an offline package is exactly that. This layer therefore works only with a connection.

🇦🇹 Austria

The legal guide is verified against the official text of the law and published, and the technical LiDAR pilot is measured on one tile near the Slovenian border from an open source (CC BY 4.0). The official Austrian hillshade layer (basemap.at) has been enabled on the web map since 30 Aug 2026 — but it is third-party and informational, not our analytic rendering. Our analytic layers and zones are still missing, so Austria is NOT a supported country.

Source date and our verification date — The source has a known series cut-off date (15 Sep 2019) and our verification date; what is missing is verification of a newer vintage and an agreed refresh cadence.
Measured coverage — The pipeline is measured and its quality matches the Slovenian layer (analytic rendering at 1 m, 30 Aug 2026): ~1.1 s and ~0.17 MB per km². For the whole country that means ~18 GB and a few hours of processing. Country-wide coverage is not built yet.
Certainty level stated in the app — The third-party basemap.at layer is labeled on the map with its source, license and an active link; for zones and our analytic rendering there is no certainty level yet, because they do not exist.
Only a limited single online lookup is prepared. We have not verified a permitted offline workflow or scope for this source.
The server path is prepared but remains closed by default with AT_PARCEL_ENABLED. DKM_GST is a snapshot dated 1 Apr 2026, not a daily-live cadastre. Measurements return the cadastral-municipality code and parcel number; we do not promise the municipality name, official area, ownership or geometry.
Pilot measured on 30 Aug 2026 on one tile near the Slovenian border: the source is open (CC BY 4.0 license from the BEV catalog) and the pipeline works. The layer is NOT in the app yet — Austria becomes supported only once every point of the standard is green, including the legal guide. The series carries a cut-off date of 15 Sep 2019; a newer vintage is still to be verified.

Official Austrian terrain hillshade from 1 m data — NOT our analytic rendering, which is why it is labeled informational. Source verified on 30 Aug 2026 in the WMTS capabilities: layer `bmapgelaende`, style `grau`, JPEG, google3857, zoom 0–17, extent 8.78–17.5 E / 46.36–49.04 N. The layer has been enabled on the web map since 30 Aug 2026; the map credit line fulfils their condition — attribution with an active link to basemap.at. Tiles run through our server, which tonally aligns the source greys to the scale of our Slovenian layer: that is an adaptation under CC BY 4.0, while the terrain content stays theirs. The source also covers strips across the neighbouring countries, so we clip the layer to the national border (Statistik Austria NUTS1, CC BY 4.0; dissolved and simplified, including Jungholz; source and licence credited on the map) — a cartographic mask for rendering, not a legal boundary.

A protected nature area is NOT an automatic metal detecting prohibition — the display always reads "protected area, check local rules", never an automatic red or green sign.
